On Saturday, January 25th, over 30 volunteers from the Dededo Ward showed up for Beautification Day at Maria A. Ulloa Elementary.
Donning yellow vests and smiles, they joined other volunteers in helping the school prepare for a scheduled government inspection.
“Having a clean school means having a safe school,” explained Mabel Uncangco, Vice-principal at the school. “To make sure we are meeting public health requirements required for Guam schools, we identified some areas that needed attention, and today we are targeting those needs.”

Members of the Dededo Ward were happy to come and help brighten up the school. Adults and children joined together in the effort.
“Beautification Day was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our local school community,” said Dylan Sablan who along with wife Beverlyn serves in the school’s PTO leadership.
“Being involved in this cleanup with my family and church friends has been a joy and a blessing,” added Sister Sablan. “For our daughters the experience was not only fun, but a great experience in learning to serve beyond our family and church and extend our love and effort to our community.”
The cheerful group of volunteers spent 2 hours washing and scrubbing desks, shelves, window casings, shutters, air conditioning filters, and sweeping floors.
Expressing appreciation to all those who helped, Brother Sablan added, “What a great way to demonstrate our commitment to serve others and follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ!”
